Appraisal Methodology Overview

  • VVA primarily utilizes a market-based approach to valuation, analyzing how similar vehicles are priced and transacted in the open market. This approach reflects buyer and seller behavior for most and is appropriate for vehicle appraisal assignments.

  • Comparable vehicles are selected and analyzed in accordance with VVA’s Comparable Selection Guidelines. Comparables are evaluated based on relevance, condition, mileage, configuration, geographic market, and timing. Adjustments are applied when material differences exist between the subject vehicle and comparables.

  • Vehicle condition is assessed using VVA’s Condition Rating Definitions (0-5). Condition ratings support market comparison and valuation adjustments. Adjustments may also be applied for mileage, options, modifications, market factors, or other value drivers when supported by market evidence.

  • When standard market assumptions do not apply - such as with specialty vehicles, limited-production models, restorations, or conversions - VVA applies professional judgment informed by available market evidence, historical data, and observed market behavior.

  • For Diminished Value assignments, the methodology focuses on the market perception of loss in value resulting from accident history. This analysis considers pre-loss market value, post-repair market stigma, and comparable evidence reflecting buyer behavior.
